ICSULA 2023
II. International Conference on Sustainable Cities and Urban Landscapes:

Re-thinking the Future of the Cities and Urban Landscapes

October 26-27, 2023 / Konya, TÜRKÄ°YE

 ICSULA-2023

Esteemed scientists and participants,

It is my pleasure and honor to invite you to the International Conference on Sustainable Cities and Urban Landscapes (ICSULA 2023) which will be held face to face and online on October 26-27, 2023.

ICSULA 2022, the first conference on sustainable cities and urban landscapes, which attracted intense participation from different planning and design disciplines, was completed successfully and with great participation in 2022 hosted by Selçuk University Faculty of Architecture and Design (https://www.iksadkongre.com/icsula2022). Last year, within the framework of sustainable urban development, scientists from professional disciplines of various planning and design sciences contributed to the congress. Following this conference, this year “II. International Conference on Sustainable Cities and Urban Landscapes -ICSULA 2023- is being carried out and with ICSULA  2023 it is aimed to bring together qualified scientists from the world, to present their valuable research on urban studies to share them and to bring them together on an international common platform. ICSULA 2023 will be held on October  26-27, 2023 in Selcuk University, hosted by Architecture and Design Faculty. The languages of ICSULA 2023 are English and Turkish.

Sustainability of cities and urban landscapes means a healthy urban life and its consistency. Here, at the same time, reference is made to the quality of urban life, which expresses both requirements and comfort. The urban quality of life in question may decrease or even disappear over time due to some negative conditions and/or natural disasters caused by “cultural-human induced-” activities.

The earthquake disaster experienced in Turkey this year necessitated the reconstruction of the future of the cities; primarily in the cities where the earthquake was experienced, in the cities where possible earthquakes may occur, and in all other cities. In other words, the "urban renaissance", which includes an innovative approach to planning and design.

Congress Topics Related to Sustainable Cities and Urban Landscapes

In this conference whether as a result of human activities or natural disasters, what needs to be done in order to restore urban sustainability and the declining and/or lost quality of life in cities, will be discussed in terms of factors causing problems and short and long term solutions. These solutions include all kinds of physical planning issues that include the city and urban landscape and serve sustainability and non-physical planning issues that form the basis of this issue.

In this context, in cities and especially in cities affected by earthquakes;

  • ecological planning and design approaches in line with the analysis and synthesis of natural data (geological structure, climate, hydrology, etc.)planning approaches in the context of changing socio-cultural and economic structure

  • reconsidering the planning and design of open and green spaces

  • transportation and settlement strategies,

  • historical environmental protection approaches

  • natural environmental protection approaches

  • universal design

  • hardscape and landscape plant materials,

  • smart city practices

  • climate change

  • new planning and design technologies,

  • city beautiful principles

  • urban fringe belt etc.

many subjects are at planning and design scales; may be addressed in theory and practice and the foundations of management. This approach should be addressed from the perspective of regional development in the context of creating spatial strategies.

ICSULA 2023 meets the academic promotion criteria of the relevant institutions, including being appointed to associate professorship and professorship positions in terms of the Science and Advisory Board as well as the diversity of participating countries. Papers presented at the Symposium, English abstracts, or full texts will be published in the Conference Proceedings Book with ISBN.
